What?

Recipe Recommendation: I hardly ever make the same thing twice, but I've made LuLu's Red Curry Thunder Thighs several times. The sauce it makes is wonderful and I usually have all the ingredients on hand. Who doesn't love a good, zesty sauce? There's a bit of chopping involved, but once everything is in the pan, it's smooth sailing. I like to serve it with Jasmine rice and a green salad. I think the dish would be a good contender for the crock pot. If you despise curry, leave it out. Bet it would still be delicious.

I started hand quilting this king-size 12" x 14" quilt about three years ago. I finished (and bound!) it this week. Now I need to wash it to see if any of that hand quilting shows up any better. I absolutely adore anything hand quilted, but I find it kind of tedious to do. One day, I'm going to learn to enjoy the process. I'll keep practicing until then.

These were two-inch squares cut from some scraps my buddy Terri sent me. I believe these scraps were old Hawaiian shirts. I had to "fake" four squares to get an even number. Can you spot them? I'm hoping to make this into a picnic table topper for friends celebrating their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. I couldn't afford anything silver.

I saw this really neat Greek key duvet cover in the West Elm catalog, so I tried my hand at some Greek key log cabin blocks. Boring.

Then I got lost in this little flower hair clip. I'm going to make the angry dachshund wear it when we walk and bark at dogs ten times his size. It's a very mean and threatening bark too. Very embarrassing. The big dogs laugh at little Mr. 10 lbs. with the ferocious bark. I try to hide behind bushes.

And now that I've seen my first (and last) zombie movie, I feel the need to protect myself. Those vampires have nothing on zombies. Zombies are bad. Our very own Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has posted emergency preparation in case of a zombie apocalypse. Handy, I tell you. Works for other emergencies too in case you don't believe in zombies. How I love a government entity that possesses a bit of humor. Go CDC!

Crazy post, huh? I blame work and having no time to sew.

This and That

 

I stumbled across this interesting article by Judi Ketteler celebrating two centuries of sewing. The talented Ms. Ketteler has a fab blog and her book, Sew Retro looks interesting too.

I received an adorable little doll quilt in the mail today.

And a wonky house block from a swap. I love seeing what fabrics everyone sews with.

I tested a pattern for my guild buddy, Margaret of Eazy Peazy Quilts and she had this super duper Chaco Liner marking tool. It holds chalk and really marks the fabric beautifully. So I bought one.

Uh oh, look what else I bought. Guild buddies are such bad influences. Heather showed me her knitting at Sew Day and I thought I'd give it a shot. The gorgeous yarns always make me drool. I only bought two skeins. How's that for restraint?! We won't talk about the fabric purchases. ;)
