Once the ham coma lifts, I'm going to do a little quilting. Happy spring!<br />

I received a sweet package from my buddy Yumi in Japan. She always spoils me.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jwe3VvJAJe0/VtIQaBuEvlI/AAAAAAAAMdY/4uG6qJwTT5w/s1600/IMG_4719.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jwe3VvJAJe0/VtIQaBuEvlI/AAAAAAAAMdY/4uG6qJwTT5w/s400/IMG_4719.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
I love this pretty pouch. Yumi is a very talented sewer and quilter.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-o7qx1ctAeBE/VtIQahTuR3I/AAAAAAAAMdc/U65NWSoT-VM/s1600/IMG_4720.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-o7qx1ctAeBE/VtIQahTuR3I/AAAAAAAAMdc/U65NWSoT-VM/s400/IMG_4720.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
She sent these fun Japanese prints. I adore these!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HLnJJUpOL5Q/VtIQc2jqNQI/AAAAAAAAMdg/jRYFGzKWKsA/s1600/IMG_4721.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HLnJJUpOL5Q/VtIQc2jqNQI/AAAAAAAAMdg/jRYFGzKWKsA/s400/IMG_4721.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Look at the cute selvage!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Anyone remember cassette tapes?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-T0abIs1TAnY/VtIQdMTTsQI/AAAAAAAAMdk/y-JUFZ01rKM/s1600/IMG_4722.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-T0abIs1TAnY/VtIQdMTTsQI/AAAAAAAAMdk/y-JUFZ01rKM/s400/IMG_4722.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
The English on Japanese prints are notorious and hilarious. It's one of the reasons I love them.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qMlUC2nF7M4/VtIQda0VJYI/AAAAAAAAMdo/eDz9xC2RaJo/s1600/IMG_4723.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qMlUC2nF7M4/VtIQda0VJYI/AAAAAAAAMdo/eDz9xC2RaJo/s400/IMG_4723.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Come on smiled!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-41W9Yw4cxjY/VtIQZyT7onI/AAAAAAAAMdU/MM-RKJYxz9g/s1600/IMG_4717.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-41W9Yw4cxjY/VtIQZyT7onI/AAAAAAAAMdU/MM-RKJYxz9g/s400/IMG_4717.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
I conclude this post with proof I really am a silly teenage girl. Taylor Swift polka dot Keds. Yes. They were on sale, but I might have paid full price if I. Maybe I'll save my dignity and take off the brass guitar pick. At least I gave up the saddle shoes. They weren't even popular when I was young, but my friend and I wore them like we were raised in the 50s. Goofs.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--l68ykBuGh4/VtIRbsI7qlI/AAAAAAAAMds/uJmyijRDTOA/s1600/IMG_4713.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--l68ykBuGh4/VtIRbsI7qlI/AAAAAAAAMds/uJmyijRDTOA/s400/IMG_4713.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
And I can always tone the Keds down with my new socks. I may need a stylist.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1cNL6OVxmoc/VtIT-Cq87HI/AAAAAAAAMd8/mb5AA1FKUYE/s1600/IMG_4724.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1cNL6OVxmoc/VtIT-Cq87HI/AAAAAAAAMd8/mb5AA1FKUYE/s400/IMG_4724.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
I made a pouch to match. Kidding.<br />

Here's the back. I'm still fussy cutting this hilarious fabric. I think I'm about out of it, but I kind of hope I have a hunk stashed somewhere.<br />

Our guild's BOM. The <a href="http://www.redpepperquilts.com/2013/08/economy-block-quilt-in-progress-tutorial.html" target="_blank">economy block, or square in a square</a>. I got carried away and made four. They're pretty fun.<br />

This is the charity quilt made for Quiltcon 2016. Our group consisted of seven ladies throughout the US. We communicated via email and came up with this traditional sampler quilt with an improv spin. I love how it turned out. It will be donated to a firefighter's organization. Our guild made a beautiful quilt as well, so I was able to participate in two of the charity quilts.<br />

<br />
Myself, I'll be playing with fabric. Some new ones, too! Lucky me!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Kp4Do65y8hw/Vre6MdagbEI/AAAAAAAAMbE/Qu_WZxY7BGw/s1600/IMG_4681.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Kp4Do65y8hw/Vre6MdagbEI/AAAAAAAAMbE/Qu_WZxY7BGw/s400/IMG_4681.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Cotton & Steel prints keep growing on me. Loved these two by Melody Miller.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Sale stuff. I have some Dr. Seuss in my stash, so this panel will whip up into a quick quilt. I kind of want a Dr. Seuss quilt! I'm sure I'll find a kid who would love a Seuss quilt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I won this Blueberry Park charm square pack at our guild meeting. Really love these prints. Such great colors, too. There's a cool version I might have to add to my collection.<br />

Two-inch half square triangles from the trimmings of my purse strings blocks. There are only 320. Might make a cute something. They're all sewn together, I just need to finish trimming them. I'm using this super easy method that I wish I would have learned long ago. Here are some tutorials that show how. <a href="http://amyscreativeside.com/2015/12/28/a-quick-tip-half-square-triangle-trimming/" target="_blank">Half Square Triangle Trimming</a>. And if you have an easy angle ruler, <a href="http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2013/11/more-than-one-way-to-trim-triangle.html?showComment=1383342970642#c7135564209011310090" target="_blank">this way is even easier.</a> Am I the last quilter that didn't know about this tip?<br />

My Try the World box was from Thailand this time. I made the tom yum soup this afternoon and it is the bomb! I haven't tried anything else, but I will.<br />

Look maw, I'm eating vegetables with my bleu cheese and baguette. Caramelized onions are a vegetable, right? We don't normally watch football, but the Super Bowl was a great excuse to eat tapas for dinner. I might even swing it again for Valentine's Day dinner.Michelehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09828295609351712663noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5428293345532773122.post-46728888580667717892016-01-24T10:25:00.000-05:002016-01-24T10:25:02.436-05:00Sunday Fun Day!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Finally found a way to hang my temporary design wall (aka flannel backed vinyl tablecloth). I've tried painter's tape, packaging tape, duct tape, and push pins. Seems that heavy cans of tomatoes and iron toy sewing machines are the best solution. Now I have no excuse not to vacuum my studio. I usually put my blocks on my design floor.</div>

I attended World Quilt Florida right here in Orlando a few weeks ago. There were some interesting quilts and I had a little fun with the fabric vendors. I found some deals at the <a href="http://www.pineapplefabrics.com/" target="_blank">Pineapple Fabrics</a> booth. Kaffe Fassett shot cottons and woven stripes on the left and a bundle of fun retro, novelty prints.<br />

I made a quilted planner cover for the quilting calendars our guild ordered. This is the outside. I fell in love with this retro comic book fabric. It's from Alexander Henry and called "Home Sewing is Easy." There's a second version, too.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7mNlaiD58U4/VqTenuxEDfI/AAAAAAAAMZ8/zPQBqg54M80/s1600/IMG_4670.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7mNlaiD58U4/VqTenuxEDfI/AAAAAAAAMZ8/zPQBqg54M80/s400/IMG_4670.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Here's the inside. Skull and scissors crossbones and polka dots. Of course. The orange biz card holder is too small, but my cards fit in vertically.The polka dots are pockets.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Here's the planner installed. Now to schedule some sewing time!<br />
<br />

Just look at that paella! We went to a paella party at Rene's house. Lots of fun company! Not only was the paella delicious, but th chef made appetizers and desserts to die for. We rolled ourselves out of their house! So fun and so good!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I have a <a href="http://www.gooddinnermom.com/hungarian-mushroom-soup-sort-of/" target="_blank">Hungarian mushroom soup</a> planned for lunch. It's so cold here. I'm changing up the recipe and adding in some celery, carrots, and the white wine I steeped the oyster mushrooms in. I'll use white mushrooms too. I'm in a cooking mood today, so no telling what gets made. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1XdPzIFdD9g/VqTlsRz7KbI/AAAAAAAAMak/V1gKchrgQ7o/s1600/IMG_4674.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1XdPzIFdD9g/VqTlsRz7KbI/AAAAAAAAMak/V1gKchrgQ7o/s400/IMG_4674.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Finished 20 <a href="http://myquiltinfatuation.blogspot.com/2013/09/purse-strings-block.html" target="_blank">Purse Strings blocks</a> in pinks, yellows, and oranges. I wish I had made the 15" blocks, but I chose 12". I loved My Quilt Infatuation's color scheme, so I stuck with that. It's a fun and easy block and now I have 320 half square triangles from the trimmings. And yeah, I'm sewing those together. Scrappy, crazy, goodness.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On to more projects! And food! Have a great week!</div>

I've missed the blog world so much. Miss reading blogs, miss writing blog posts, and recipe and quilt "research." And you! Not in a stalkier way either.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I made an ugly table runner from selvage blocks. These were part of the trimmings I mixed with white and I really like how they turned out, so maybe I'm on to something. I'm still rich in selvages, so plenty of projects in my future.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

These <a href="http://woodenspoonquilts.blogspot.ca/2014/09/raspberry-kiss-block-tutorial_56.html" target="_blank">Raspberry Kisses blocks</a> were a guild BOM. Aren't they darling at 4.25" unfinished? I'd love to make a baby quilt with the little cuties.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Xcl2aOZwur4/Vpu8rLp4ghI/AAAAAAAAMYQ/qFoxxvztMUc/s1600/IMG_4634.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Xcl2aOZwur4/Vpu8rLp4ghI/AAAAAAAAMYQ/qFoxxvztMUc/s400/IMG_4634.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
Improv blocks for our guild's Quiltcon 2016 charity quilt. I saw the quilt getting bound yesterday at Sew Day and it is exquisite! I want to copy these blocks too! So many projects for the new year!<br />
<br />

I had a little fun carving a pink eraser into a stamp.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

More BOM blocks. I don't usually get to go to the meetings because of real job, but I do love doing the BOM. More improv on these little trees.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I finished this little mini on our quilt retreat in November. What a fun time! I can't wait until next year.<br />
<br />
I had some time off work during the holidays and was able to sew, cook, visit, and binge watch TV. I've seen Transparent and Nurse Jackie to round out my inappropriate television viewing addiction. They're both really good if you haven't seen them.Michelehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09828295609351712663noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5428293345532773122.post-27504536002071568622015-09-29T10:39:00.000-04:002015-09-29T10:39:00.408-04:00Halloween Quilt<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qZLl3Wmn8oc/VgasAb0qwDI/AAAAAAAAMWY/CXRSQmhVH1g/s1600/IMG_4603.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qZLl3Wmn8oc/VgasAb0qwDI/AAAAAAAAMWY/CXRSQmhVH1g/s400/IMG_4603.JPG" width="393" /></a></div>
I made this for the graphic designer at work. She finished up chemo and got a new job, so I figured I'd whip up a quick quilt for her. She loves Halloween. I used a fabric panel to make the piecing go quickly.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-j3QMv-NPvwA/VgasApB4zJI/AAAAAAAAMWc/pwfuOVoqq0Y/s1600/IMG_4605.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="343" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-j3QMv-NPvwA/VgasApB4zJI/AAAAAAAAMWc/pwfuOVoqq0Y/s400/IMG_4605.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The back is pieced as well. I used some fat quarters in halloween colors.The ghost print on the edges glows in the dark! I didn't know that!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

My guild buddy, Frank did the awesome quilting. It's breathtaking! I think he had fun making this quilt sing. Or maybe scream is more appropriate. I know I was squealing when I saw his quilting. Wow.<br />

Since I've been working crazy hours and doing stuff on the weekends, a few of our dinners have looked like this. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
First off, this delightful date nut pudding. It's really a moist cake, but I highly recommend it. My mother-in-law served this cake to me many moons ago and I flipped! It was so good! She adds a dollop of cool whip or whipped cream but it's great without.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It took her years to give me the family recipe. I think she wanted to make sure I was a "keeper!" Ha!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I always forget about this cake and everyone loves it. It was my husband's paternal grandmother's recipe.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Hollywood went to St. Augustine and perused the antique shops. She brought me this fun metal box and it was filled with old unique machine feet. <a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pLiC2Gf2uxE/Vgad5bPcT4I/AAAAAAAAMTo/jVJmR5Fwk1M/s1600/IMG_4577.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pLiC2Gf2uxE/Vgad5bPcT4I/AAAAAAAAMTo/jVJmR5Fwk1M/s400/IMG_4577.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Playing with my gigantic bag of selvages. They always make me happy! I'm sporting two oven burns, so these will come in handy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iTiyCSkuTqs/Vgad5VEIWcI/AAAAAAAAMTk/y4j6I-3YW9U/s1600/IMG_4578.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iTiyCSkuTqs/Vgad5VEIWcI/AAAAAAAAMTk/y4j6I-3YW9U/s400/IMG_4578.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>

Another finish! It's just a mini, but it was fun. This will hang in a local library as part of the <a href="http://theorlandomodernquiltguild.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Orlando Modern Quilt Guild</a> display.<br />

These bright blocks are for the Quiltcon 2016 charity quilt project. I'm in a group with six other Modern Quilt Members from around the country. Together we're making improv sampler blocks from traditional block patterns. I went with a food theme (surprise). Churn dash and broken dishes. The little ones are just thrown together.<br />
<br />
Our guild is making a quilt as well, so I'll get to play with these fabrics again!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LJExUzUT2Y0/VgahHlYh3aI/AAAAAAAAMUk/Li3Ed7v4h1s/s1600/IMG_4584.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LJExUzUT2Y0/VgahHlYh3aI/AAAAAAAAMUk/Li3Ed7v4h1s/s400/IMG_4584.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
I found some fresh mullet and smoked it on my charcoal grill. It was so good. I've got to get more. I'll have the fish monger butterfly them next time. I butchered these poor guys. AT least they removed the heads and guts. Inspector Gadget was freaking out. His idea of fish is made by some married lady named Paul and found in the freezer section.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xEZkhKpr84c/VgahHjFKFiI/AAAAAAAAMUg/R6PvfDI57bk/s1600/IMG_4550.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xEZkhKpr84c/VgahHjFKFiI/AAAAAAAAMUg/R6PvfDI57bk/s400/IMG_4550.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Have you been eating avocados this summer? The Haas versions have been so cheap. I got the Inspector addicted to them! He never ate them before, but now he can't get enough of them. I made the salad caprese for Hollywood and then threw on the avocado for oomph. So good.<br />
<br />
Off to play with selvages. Wheeeee! Happy Saturday!<br />

<br />
This summer has been non-stop. I'm working on a secret quilting project that I can't show, but I am still finding time to cook and sew other things.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IerNc6QG244/VbaMrCEh_KI/AAAAAAAAMRg/3FLmc-lVvUM/s1600/IMG_4523.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IerNc6QG244/VbaMrCEh_KI/AAAAAAAAMRg/3FLmc-lVvUM/s400/IMG_4523.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tSLmS6Q0mJ0/VbaMrNdQfzI/AAAAAAAAMRc/cPMKum1ZKpM/s1600/IMG_4533.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tSLmS6Q0mJ0/VbaMrNdQfzI/AAAAAAAAMRc/cPMKum1ZKpM/s400/IMG_4533.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
I chopped up some bright batiks to make a scrappy Irish chain for the #ohscrap along that <a href="http://www.canoeridgecreations.com/2015/06/oh-scrap-scrappy-chain-quilt-layout.html" target="_blank">Canoe Ridge Creations</a> whipped up. I did the first block at home on my Juki and subsequent blocks on my Sew Day machine. The sizes are quite different, so this will be a Sew Day project. I like it!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xAMlHG87Bbk/VbaM3-xGeWI/AAAAAAAAMSA/J3INjsTTbgI/s1600/IMG_4526.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xAMlHG87Bbk/VbaM3-xGeWI/AAAAAAAAMSA/J3INjsTTbgI/s400/IMG_4526.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
I've received two Try the World boxes. These are a blast. The one above is from France and the one below from Argentina. We're enjoying trying all the unique items.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Yumi, my buddy from Japan made these this beautiful wallet. I needed a new wallet. I finally had a minute to get my stuff in it. She uses vintage kimono scraps. Gorgeous!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Cherry massacre. I made these <a href="http://heatherchristo.com/cooks/2015/07/08/sweet-and-sour-cherry-salty-dog/" target="_blank">Sweet & Sour Cherry Salty Dogs</a>. Yum. Cheers and happy Monday! I hope you're having fun.Michelehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09828295609351712663noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5428293345532773122.post-2929370309237246542015-06-13T10:42:00.003-04:002015-06-13T10:42:46.211-04:00Recipes to Remember<a href="http://www.foodandwine.com/blogs/2015/01/19/how-to-poach-a-dozen-eggs-at-once" target="_blank">How to poach a dozen eggs at once.</a> I'd love to have a brunch party. Eggs Benny, Bloody Mary bar, biscuits, scones, bacon, ham, scrapple, etc. I have so many good recipes <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/craftychele/breakfast-brunch/" target="_blank">pinned for brunch</a>. After never eating breakfast as a child, it has become my favorite meal. I prefer savory stuff, and you can put a runny egg on it too! Are eggs expensive in your area? There's an avian flu that is causing prices to rise. They still have to be the least expensive protein.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fkeTFC-EcTs/VXshshKO2SI/AAAAAAAAMQQ/YJZJsDKOgLE/s1600/IMG_4511.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fkeTFC-EcTs/VXshshKO2SI/AAAAAAAAMQQ/YJZJsDKOgLE/s400/IMG_4511.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
My first co-op box of the summer arrived. Those porcini mushrooms were so good. I used them to make these <a href="http://damndelicious.net/2015/01/02/easy-creamy-mushrooms/" target="_blank">Easy Creamy Mushrooms</a>. I substituted half and half for the heavy cream. Mainly because I didn't have any heavy cream. They would be even better with heavy cream.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I made <a href="http://www.cookingwithnonna.com/italian-cuisine/caponata.html" target="_blank">caponata </a>with the Japanese eggplants and peppers. It's delicious!<br />
<br />

The Orlando Modern Quilt Guild's block of the month. This was a fun one! Curved piecing is a bit intimidating, but I love the look of it. These gentle curves aren't too hard to accomplish.<br />
<br />

I could make it again this weekend. We were eating it on bagels and crackers.<br />

Puttering around with the scraps again. I thought this<a href="http://quispamsisquilter.blogspot.com/2011/03/scrapbuster-random-railfence-block.html" target="_blank"> random railfence block</a> looked like a lot of fun. I might have to make a few more blocks today. They were quick. Where did I get all that pink?<br />

All these beauties were on sale. I love a good fabric sale!<br />
<br />
Have a great week friends!<br />

My first box features foods from Argentina. I'm a sucker for home delivered items. Makes my day to get a package in the mail or on my front porch. I miss swapping when I received stuff all the time.<br />
<br />
I also joined a spice blend of the month club. Too much time on my hands, obviously. That's really not the case, but I do tend to get easily distracted between projects at work.<br />
<br />

Here's our guild's June block of the month. It was a fun one, even if I did mess up in the beginning. I love seeing all the blocks that everyone creates. Maybe I'll win this time!<br />

The Inspector and I are proud parents of two college graduates! I was so happy they were able to graduate together. They both earned business degrees from UCF, my alma mater. So proud of these little boogers. I guess I can't call College Boy, College Boy any longer. Hollywood will always be Hollywood!<br />

It's salad caprese time! My basil plant is thriving and the tomatoes are getting good. No one is happier about caprese than Miss. Hollywood. Buy stock in mozzarella.<br />

I finished my jelly roll quilt top. Such an easy and fun pattern. I love how the white on the blocks create the look of sashing. It's time to gather some tops to send to the longarm quilter. I'm going to do the little quilts myself, but I need help on these larger ones.<br />
<br />
TV is so boring over the summer. I did catch two good movies that are at RedBox. <i>Gone Girl </i>and<i> Big Eyes. </i>Now I'm cruising NetFlix for a fix. I highly recommend <i>Grace & Frankie</i> with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. I just started watching <i>Between</i>. I need some books on tape or fun shows/movies if you have any recommendations.<br />
<br />
Have a happy weekend! I'm off to sew.Michelehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09828295609351712663noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5428293345532773122.post-55116157628100415142015-05-19T15:51:00.000-04:002015-05-19T15:51:01.958-04:00Funny, ha, ha!Do you need a laugh today?<br />

Sorry to see Mad Men end. Being in the ad biz myself, I enjoyed seeing how advertising was done mid-century. It's still exactly the same. Ha! <a href="http://www.thrillist.com/entertainment/nation/mad-men-finale-recap-mad-men-finale-recap-by-someone-who-s-never-seen-it" target="_blank">This finale recap is hilarious.</a> It was written by someone who had never seen the show. We had a fun sewing day at Cocoa Beach Saturday. My guild buddy has a gorgeous place on the beach. It's paradise. I wish I could win the lottery. A beach house would be high on the shopping list. Being at the beach is so relaxing. I love everything about it. Maybe I should actually play the lottery.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-A-LcCSw8I-I/VUZtG5lrJhI/AAAAAAAAMJo/8ZEIp8oxfN4/s1600/The%2BConstellation.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-A-LcCSw8I-I/VUZtG5lrJhI/AAAAAAAAMJo/8ZEIp8oxfN4/s1600/The%2BConstellation.JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
We sewed in the rec room. Break time was a stroll on the nearly deserted beach. The water was a little too cool for a dip, but the weather was exquisite. We finally had a perfect spring day. April has been a steamy scorcher. It was like we went straight to summer. This weekend was cooler.<br />
<br />

Alejandrina made a huge spread of gourmet goodies. She has the largest collection of cookbooks I've ever seen. I could spend weeks browsing through her cookbooks. I love how they're all on a wall in her kitchen. Lunch was falafel with tahini sauce, meatballs with tzatziki, chicken salad, roasted vegetables with vinaigrette and a spinach and cheese strata. Oh my word! Everything was so good.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s5unLxBW4OQ/VUZxPLpzACI/AAAAAAAAMKU/rJOYE6cwgzs/s1600/IMG_4437.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s5unLxBW4OQ/VUZxPLpzACI/AAAAAAAAMKU/rJOYE6cwgzs/s1600/IMG_4437.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
I chose an easier project as we get talking and anything complicated gets messed up quickly. I've made this jelly roll quilt before and I remember it being fun and easy. And I loved the results. I think it's the only pattern I've ever duplicated. It was a last minute decision as I threw my stuff into the bag before leaving.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SHEfHL-yrjM/VUZxO_CPYoI/AAAAAAAAMKQ/YiDO_RdSJU4/s1600/IMG_4438.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SHEfHL-yrjM/VUZxO_CPYoI/AAAAAAAAMKQ/YiDO_RdSJU4/s1600/IMG_4438.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
The fabric line is "Ashton Road" by Valori Wells. Jelly rolls are fun sometimes. Not a lot of thinking since it all kinds of goes together. I made 20 of these strip sets.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yh6eFlp-TIg/VUZxPv8L41I/AAAAAAAAMKc/lT5t7ec38cU/s1600/IMG_4440.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yh6eFlp-TIg/VUZxPv8L41I/AAAAAAAAMKc/lT5t7ec38cU/s1600/IMG_4440.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
Then sub cut them today into 3.5" sections. Here they are all stacked up and ready to be paired into blocks. That will have to wait until my next sewing session. This laundry ain't doing itself.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Someone was no help. Note fabric scraps on carpet. How did those get way over there? I can't disturb Mr. Bones with the vacuum cleaner, so they stay. Well that's my story and I'm sticking with it. Have a great week.<br />

I love my new herb keepers. My parsley lasts so much longer and now I don't find slimy bundles of rotten parsley in the crisper. Now I need a cucumber keeper.<br />

This challenge fabric from the Modern Quilt Guild has stumped me. I love it, but I couldn't figure out what to make with it. Part of the challenge was to try something new.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-p0ZucrME48c/VT00MKlajWI/AAAAAAAAMIw/2m2VrhwzTB8/s1600/IMG_4430.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-p0ZucrME48c/VT00MKlajWI/AAAAAAAAMIw/2m2VrhwzTB8/s1600/IMG_4430.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
So I played with gentle curves, slice 'n dice, etc. Yuck. Poop. Not happy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Wg4Rj5E0rQ8/VT00MpEjCkI/AAAAAAAAMI4/ON8Z51oPlrM/s1600/IMG_4431.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Wg4Rj5E0rQ8/VT00MpEjCkI/AAAAAAAAMI4/ON8Z51oPlrM/s1600/IMG_4431.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
Then I hacked it up. This is me trying something new! Hacking up something I've sewn. Fabric waste city, but whatevs.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RvJaOETWrWE/VT00MUEyDvI/AAAAAAAAMI0/d8ndePDVVgE/s1600/IMG_4435.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RvJaOETWrWE/VT00MUEyDvI/AAAAAAAAMI0/d8ndePDVVgE/s1600/IMG_4435.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
Dresden plate with a fussy cut center. I like it! I'm appliqueing it onto a big piece of white and plan to quilt it to within an inch of its life.<br />

That was a quick April! May Day is Friday. Need to break out the May pole. Ha!<br />
<br />
I've been busy with my first Corporate 5K. I only did it for work. Peer pressure. It was kind of fun. I liked watching the people. I think 18,000 people showed up for it. I'm no athlete, although I did bike 5.5 miles this morning with the Inspector. All this extra calorie burning means I can eat more, right? Isn't that why you exercise?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-viW-j5vUzSM/VT0CxgDb5zI/AAAAAAAAMHg/_frFCCHoMC0/s1600/IMG_4411.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-viW-j5vUzSM/VT0CxgDb5zI/AAAAAAAAMHg/_frFCCHoMC0/s1600/IMG_4411.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
I tried this <a href="http://www.restlesschipotle.com/2013/10/buttermilk-bread/#_a5y_p=1281321" target="_blank">honey buttermilk bread</a>. The recipe said to put a pinch of ginger into the yeast mixure. Boy, did it make the yeast bloom. Wow.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kx2YGJ0Js4k/VT0CxjWlEPI/AAAAAAAAMHY/EQffESlTKkE/s1600/IMG_4413.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kx2YGJ0Js4k/VT0CxjWlEPI/AAAAAAAAMHY/EQffESlTKkE/s1600/IMG_4413.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
Here they are at the second rise. These babies rose like crazy. Tall bread!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jpLSQ8GPqCo/VT0Cx9iETXI/AAAAAAAAMHc/Hk09HUguJFc/s1600/IMG_4418.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jpLSQ8GPqCo/VT0Cx9iETXI/AAAAAAAAMHc/Hk09HUguJFc/s1600/IMG_4418.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
Here they are all baked off. It was a good recipe and solved our out of bread problem.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

A guild mate was collecting tulip blocks for twin girls. I'm not sure I like the purple one, but maybe she will. They were fun to make, so there's that.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rnWapzvumCg/VT0C02gN8uI/AAAAAAAAMHw/IDE0zwg52vw/s1600/IMG_4422.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rnWapzvumCg/VT0C02gN8uI/AAAAAAAAMHw/IDE0zwg52vw/s1600/IMG_4422.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
The Inspector stopped by the seafood shop Friday and bought gigantic shrimp from Argentina and a huge filet of mahi mahi. I used some of the shrimp and fish to make ceviche. I could eat ceviche every day. Inspector Gadget had leftover a ceviche, hard boiled egg and mayo sandwich this morning. He's odd.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-I_AY4HcA1gI/VT0L2wq3H0I/AAAAAAAAMIg/5dLoZEyK_Zk/s1600/IMG_4428.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-I_AY4HcA1gI/VT0L2wq3H0I/AAAAAAAAMIg/5dLoZEyK_Zk/s1600/IMG_4428.JPG" height="240" width="400" /></a></div>
Here's the stash part, finally. Kaffe Fassett's 2015 collective. Swoon. I just bought them to pet them. I love his use of color. There are some fish in this collective. And his signature big blossoms. So pretty.<br />

Happy Easter! You eating ham yet? Me neither, but it's in the cards. Did you have a nice April Fool's Day? Did you get pranked? Did you prank someone? I always enjoy the holiday. I made these signs for the front and back doors at work. I fooled a few people. It made them cranky, but I think they were cranky anyway.<br />

No neon orange here. They must add food coloring to store pimento cheese.<br />
<br />
Here's the recipe from The Roosevelt restaurant in Richmond, VA.<br />
<br />
<b>Pimento Cheese</b><br />
2 cups Cheddar cheese, grated<br />
1/2 cup Mayonnaise<br />
1/4 cup Red Peppers, fresh, roasted, minced<br />
2 Tablespoons Pickle juice<br />
1 Tablespoon Hot sauce<br />
1 Teaspoon Mustard, grainy<br />
<br />
Stir all ingredients together and refrigerate until needed.<br />

I worked on these Easter-ey colored blocks over the weekend. I'm using reproduction fabrics that I've had in my stash for years. This is a variation on the Single Wedding Ring block and it's fun to put together.<br />
<br />
I'm off to sew until I have to cook. Quiet Easter this year. Everyone is cruising, vacationing, working. I like quiet especially when it involves sewing and ham. Anyone watching "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" on Netflix? I just started it this morning and it's made me laugh out loud several times. I'm on a "House of Cards" break. I stumbled across this hilarious collection of <a href="http://www.buzzfeed.com/erinchack/tumblr-posts-that-will-remind-you-why-having-a-sister-is?sub=3524434_4334732#.ibyD7pk3gE" target="_blank">Tumblr posts about family</a>. This one made me LOL. I love a fun family.<br />

St. Paddy's Day is Tuesday. I like to celebrate with corned beef and cabbage. The Inspector likes to celebrate with Guinness drinks. We stocked up on all things Irish yesterday. We're not Irish, but any holiday that celebrates a saint who drove snakes out of Ireland, is a holiday right up my snake magnet alley. It's almost snake season, ya know.<br />

I'm making this <a href="http://www.howsweeteats.com/2015/03/one-bowl-whiskey-chocolate-fudge-cake/" target="_blank">One Bowl Fudgy Whiskey Chocolate Cake</a> today. That's the ganache melting above. This is a grandmother's flower for Eleni. I've followed the Stitched in Color blog for years. Rachel recently gave birth to a little girl who could use some special thoughts and wishes. Jodi at <a href="http://www.talesofcloth.com/2015/03/send-rachel-flowers-hexie-tutorial.html" target="_blank">Tales for Cloth</a> has organized a flower gathering to make a quilt for this sweet family. If you have a minute and like to EPP, maybe you can help the quilt grow. There's also an auction going on this weekend over on Instagram: auctionforeleni. I love the loving and giving nature of quilters.<br />

Bones needed to go out while I was writing and this little guy was out on the pool deck. Did you hear my snake scream? So I guess it's officially snake season. I'm caught up with the OMQG's block of the month. This friendship star is April's block. In dreamy blues with low volume background(s). I need more low volume fabrics. I had to use plain ole white this time.<br />
<br />

This <a href="http://emeraldcoastmodernquiltguild.blogspot.com/2014/01/february-2014-lottery-block-circle-of.html" target="_blank">Circle of Friends block</a> was fun to make. This was the March block, but I didn't have time to do it before the meeting. I'll have to see if Marge needs another block or add this to my pile of orphan blocks. I thought it was too pretty not to try. It's a bit wonky, but loveable.<br />
<br />

I received my first (and only) Kickstarter product. Can't wait to try it out on cold butter. It grates the butter to make it spread easier. Genius, right? I also love the peeps that just keep butter on the counter. Apparently, it doesn't need refrigeration. I'm not brave enough, but I want to be. Eggs can be kept on your counter too. If I implement these practices and we all die, you'll know why. LOL!<br />

This improv is getting larger and wilder. I may call it a day and surround it with big solid borders. And pass out sunglasses. It got a bit out of hand. You should have seen the wild cuts I made at Sew Day. Like drunken cuts. Elbow city. I bet you know what I'm talking about.Michelehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09828295609351712663noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5428293345532773122.post-42044463979334131202015-03-09T08:00:00.000-04:002015-03-09T08:00:06.332-04:00Mono Block Printing<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The second class I took at QuiltCon was Mono Block Printing with Lizzy House. I took a stamp making class with Lizzy at the last QuiltCon. She's so talented and inspiring. Here are some examples of her block prints on paper.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PXWdzPrrrOs/VPOKOr59OAI/AAAAAAAAL7c/StHsI2235MA/s1600/2015-02-22%2B11.23.06.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PXWdzPrrrOs/VPOKOr59OAI/AAAAAAAAL7c/StHsI2235MA/s1600/2015-02-22%2B11.23.06.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
We did our block printing on fabric. Lizzy is so cute and enthusiastic. If you can ever catch one of her classes, I highly recommend it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PSZL0cbBPMU/VPOKTfXh_rI/AAAAAAAAL7w/sKo8BhIS60Q/s1600/2015-02-22%2B15.35.26.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PSZL0cbBPMU/VPOKTfXh_rI/AAAAAAAAL7w/sKo8BhIS60Q/s1600/2015-02-22%2B15.35.26.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The process was messy, but fun. It's definitely a technique I would try again. The red ink on the acrylic was my printing pad. You lay down pieces of cut newsprint to make designs. You can do this over and over with multiple shapes and colors.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-l58oldh5Ros/VPOKO8p2alI/AAAAAAAAL7g/SduH_fIoJMA/s1600/2015-02-22%2B15.17.58.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-l58oldh5Ros/VPOKO8p2alI/AAAAAAAAL7g/SduH_fIoJMA/s1600/2015-02-22%2B15.17.58.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
Here are some of the fabrics I printed. It was hard to get the inks as vibrant as I wanted, but I think different inks might produce darker results.<br />

Look what followed me home from the Austin airport. I carried this gigantic smoked beef brisket on the plane home. It was the only souvenir I thought Inspector Gadget might like. We all loved it! So delicious. The BBQ sauce was delicious too. I can highly recommend <a href="http://www.saltlickbbq.com/" target="_blank">The Salt Lick</a>. While standing in line ordering it, I was wondering how it would be packaged and if it would smell up the packed airplane. It was sealed in a bag and they provided an insulated bag to carry it home.<br />

Carolyn Friedlander has yummy low volume prints. I need to buy more low volume fabrics. I purchased these at QuiltCon along with the following.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JuuGVaoj3Y8/VPx-jMc6qtI/AAAAAAAAL9M/WL7MY7TCE-M/s1600/IMG_4321.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JuuGVaoj3Y8/VPx-jMc6qtI/AAAAAAAAL9M/WL7MY7TCE-M/s1600/IMG_4321.JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>

<br />

Cherrywood hand dyed fabrics. Over 50 colors in this grab bag. They're so vibrant and rich. I can't wait to dive into these. They would pair well with the fabrics above.<br />
<br />
Happy Sunday! The weather is beautiful here, but I'd rather be sewing.<br />

I took a class for creating patterns on cloth with dye. The dyeing process we learned is called Itajime Shibori and is a shape-resist technique. You fold cloth and use pieces of wood or acrylic to sandwich the cloth. This is all held down with clamps, so the dye doesn't reach parts of the fabric. It's a fun process. Our instructor was the talented <a href="http://kimemquilts.com/" target="_blank">Kim Eichler-Messmer</a>.<br />

Class was held offsite in a bar just a mile or so from the Convention Center and my hotel. We used the bar's back outside patio to get messy. The bar looked like a popular night spot and there were colorful characters surrounding it. There was also a bail bond place across the street as well as a delicious Korean restaurant where some of us ate lunch.</div>

This gal was famous in our class. Her design surprised her when she unfolded her fabric. Click on the photo to get a closer look. Ha!<br />

Here are my creations hanging to dry. The yellow piece on the left was put in a bleach wash to reverse the technique. It was a fun class and I loved all the fabric everyone created. I still need to wash my fabrics before I use them. I have tons of dye and supplies left over, so I'm eager to try this technique again.<br />
